Four Years Younger in Four Weeks

June 5, 2026

Your birthday is just a number. Your biological age is the one that actually matters for your health — and according to new research, a few small changes to what you eat could move that needle fast. In this episode, Rally walks you through exactly what older adults ate (and avoided) to shave years off their biological age in just 30 days! Plus, four easy action steps to give it a try yourself.

RALLY:

Hello there, Beautiful People! Welcome back to the Silver Beast Podcast.

Hey, it’s Rally Preston here. Seventy years old and still going strong – or at least that’s what I keep telling myself. I hope you’re doing great too.

So let me ask you this: If you could turn back your body’s age four years, would you do it? Oh, and it would only take you four weeks to do it.

And what would you have to do? Well, just eat a little differently than you probably are now. And that’s it.

So how about it? Would you like to rewind the clock four years? Well, don’t answer now – wait until I explain everything, and then you can decide.

Now, I need to set this one up first. This part will be quick…and then we’ll look at exactly how to rewind the clock.

Alright, so you’ve got your birthday age, right? Mine’s 70. And that one’s non-negotiable – believe me, I’ve tried.

But researchers can now measure something called your biological age. And that’s how old your body seems to be on the inside – your functional age. And they figure that out by looking at all kinds of health markers from your cells, tissues and organs.

Now here’s the really important part: Your biological age is dynamic…it can change based on a lot of factors, which are too complex for my tiny, little brain.

So for now, just know your chronological age and your biological age can be two different numbers.

And you really want your biological age to be younger than your birthday number. That all makes sense, right? Ok.

So now… let’s get to the four years younger in four weeks I teased you about upfront.

So this past April, researchers at the University of Sydney published the results of a clinical trial they conducted. All the participants were aged 65 to 75.  And they divided everyone into four different groups. And each group was assigned a different diet.

Now, here’s what they found: Three of those four groups saw their biological age actually drop – and again that’s just after four weeks following a specific diet.

Now, how much of a drop, you ask? Well, one group — and I’ll tell you what they ate in a minute — in this one group, their biological age dropped by over four years. All within those four weeks.

So they turned biologically younger by around four years in just about a month. Pretty amazing, right?

Now, full disclosure here, the researchers said the results are preliminary and measured only a short-term change.

But they called their findings a real and significant signal — early evidence that dietary changes in older adults can still move the needle on biological aging, and pretty darn fast too.

So, alright, you want to know what the group ate to take four years off their biological age, right?

Okay, so here’s what was on their plates:

They were eating things like whole grains. Brown rice. Oatmeal. Lentils, beans, chickpeas. Sweet potatoes. Normal vegetables.

And they were still eating some meat. Now this wasn’t a strict vegan kind of diet. But around 70% of their proteins came from plants. And they got most of their energy from complex carbohydrates rather than fat.

Now here’s what’s also interesting — let’s look at the group that showed no real biological improvement over those four weeks – what were they eating?

Well this was the group eating a high-fat, omnivorous diet. So a lot of meat, a lot of saturated fat. Yeah. And unfortunately, that sounds a lot like my diet. Ut-oh. Ok, well, something to think about.

But here’s what’s important to get. Three out of those four diets moved that biological age needle in the right direction. And they weren’t all the same.

So the biggest winners in this study was the group we just covered: the ones that ate more complex carbs and leaned toward plants. Okay.

But the next two groups? The runners-up? Well they just cut back on fat. Still eating some meat. Still pretty normal food. But they dialed down the fat a notch and bumped up the whole grains and vegetables a bit. And their biological age dropped too.

So this study shows you’ve got options here. And that’s important.

You don’t have to go full garden party here to get some benefits. Even a pretty small shift — a little less saturated fats, a few more whole grains, maybe one less heavy dinner per week— that was enough to move the needle for people around our ages.

So what’s going on under the hood here? How could just complex carbs and more plant-based eating affect biological age this fast?

Well the researchers believe there are a few things going on here. Fiber-rich foods help lower inflammation. They improve cholesterol. They help stabilize blood sugar. And those biomarkers — cholesterol, blood sugar, inflammation — those are big factors that go into figuring out your biological age. So when you improve those, even fairly quickly, according to this study, your biological age can move lower.

Yeah, so it’s looking like our bodies pay a lot more attention to what we feed them than we think.

So this clinical trial and early results is pretty exciting, right? Older folks showing younger biological ages in just 30 days. Well, if it holds up, this is going to be amazing!

Alright, so, action steps here. Let’s turn these study results into some simple things we can easily do at home.

Alright, Action Step One: Add one more whole grain this week. Oatmeal for breakfast. Brown rice instead of white. A little side of lentils. You don’t have to overhaul your whole kitchen here. Just add one. Try it for a week and see how that feels.

Alright, Action Step Two: Do a plant protein swap once or twice a week. Now you don’t have to give up meat. But maybe for one dinner swap in some beans, lentils, or chickpeas. A bean soup. A veggie chili. There’s great recipes out there for many plant-based dishes – just poke around online, and you’ll find them.

Alright, Action Step Three: Take a look at the fat you’re eating. Now, not all fat is bad, of course. But the study found that the high-fat crowd — specifically higher in saturated fat — got no benefit. So consider eating a little less high-fat beef, pork, processed meats, hard cheeses, whole milk, fried foods – things like that. Just go easier on those.

Alright, Action Step Four: Give it 30 days. That’s the whole point of this study. Thirty days of leaning in a slightly different direction. That’s not a long time. A month to start. And that seems doable, to me.

And quick note here — before you make any significant changes to what you’re eating, especially if you’re managing diabetes, blood pressure, or heart stuff — just loop in your doctor. Always a good move.

Alright, here’s what I want to leave you with, Silver Beasties.

Your birthday is just a date on the calendar. The number of loops you’ve made around the sun. But that’s only part of the story.

Your biological age — that’s the one that really matters for your health.

And according to this new clinical trial, you just might be able to tip that one in your favor – starting with what you put on your plate today.

Thirty days. A few small shifts. More plants, less fats. That’s all you really have to remember from this. And your body just might start running a little younger on the inside.

Something to think about.

Alright, I’m Rally Preston — thanks so much for hanging out with me today on The Silver Beast Podcast.

And I’ll be seeing you real soon. Take care!
